How do link directories have high pagerank?
Q. I've been running around submitting my site to free search engine directories and I noticed that they all have PR=5 or higher despite the fact that they have so many out-links. And, I don't know of many sites that link back to link directory sites. So I don't get it, how do they have good pagerank? Also, is it even worth my time submitting my site to them? Are they actually going to make any difference in my site's rank?

A. Submitting to directories does not give a direct result. It may takes like 3 to 6 months to have impact on your site. If you link to a directory with page rank 5 but under a category of none page rank that might be the cause your site rank doesn't coming up. Free directory usually offer submission that may take a long time to approve your site submission. Don't be surprise some of the may take up to more than a month to approve and worst case is rejecting your submission.

What is the best way to quickly find free directories that I can enter my site to?

A. Join SEO Chat forums. There are topics in those forums telling you where to find my free directories. They will also be able to help you with other techniques for promoting your website. I work as an SEO and online marketer, and SEO Chat is a very useful resource--both the forums, and the tools on the main site. I highly recommend it. Another place where you can find a long listing of free directories is Directory Critic. Most of the directories listed on this site are good quality directories that will provide you with valuable backlinks. I have listed all of these websites in the sources section. XCOPY to copy specific files from random directories into one?
Q. Can I use XCOPY to copy specific files from random directories into one? I need to create a BAT file that will search D:\ and all subdirectories that may be on the CD for specific files, ie *.U8* and copy them to a specific directory, ie C:\DATA. Anyone have an idea how to write up a BAT files like this? One that will search whatever directories may be on the CD? Thanks!

A. I would install cygwin and do it with a bash shell and the command line tool "find", e.g. find /cygdrive/d -type f -name \*.U8\* -exec cp {} /cygdrive/c/DATA/ \;
