What prison in the United States provides the best mental health services to prisoners?
Q. Hi, I am doing a "proposal" that is aim at targeting the deficiencies that prisons across the United States suffered, especially the State of California. In this proposal, I have to provide details of the common problems that affect prisoners inside prison who suffer from mental health problems. This proposal will consider the economic crisis that limits the government of California from providing better mental health treatment inside prison. So, which of the 50 states provides better mental health treatment to prisoners, excluding the State of California? Mmm, perhaps cost or something like that. Thank You!

A. Not so much an answer but an observation, my dear pal was on death row in San Quentin and he often wrote about how so many guys became so mentally ill that they were no longer fit for execution. Sadly this proved to be true when he took his own life in June this year, says it all for me. Peace

How does the United States pay for things? What are the technical details?
Q. The United States doesn't have a 'bank account' so how does this work exactly. All checks from the United States government are from the Department of the Treasury, correct? And when that check is deposited in a bank, then how exactly does the bank increase that person's account without debiting the United States government account (of which there is none)? Basically I'd like to orient myself to the 21st century method of payments between the government and its people.

Should the United States start using the metric system like the rest of the world?
Q. Why or why not? The United States is the only country on the planet that still uses the outdated imperial system. It becomes hard for things to be transferred and having to switch measurements ends up confusing. Should the United States ever switch to the metric system in the future?
Asked by Nick - Mon Apr 5 23:23:28 2010 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Probably. It's easier for one thing. A gram is a gram is a gram. A liter is a liter is a liter. In my field we use metrics all the time and to this day I don't know the difference between a liquid and solid ounce. Or how many cups per ounce. That's the other thing. Metrics are all base 10, so going from a centimeter to a meter or millimeter just requires multiplying or dividing by a factor of 10. Basically just moving a decimal point. I guess the only issue is going from solids to liquids you'd still have to convert based on density. I guess because of my field, it would just be easier for me and that's why I'd like it! *Clark: I develop plastics. We use metrics and so do our customers (dow, sweetheart, rubbermaid, etc).

Asked by Im Cool - Wed Apr 23 21:15:10 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Where there is a will there is a way. People will go to great lengths to stay obese because they can get Disability/ medicaid, food stamps etc... that is what we have to stop, the Get Out of Jail Free option. People do this to them selves, some are genetically pre-disposed, but ultimately, with their diet and lack of exercise they continue what their family started and pass it on.

A. No he can't if you plan to take a flight. Each U.S. citizen needs a valid passport for an international flight. Should you however plan to drive and cross the land border or take a cruise he can use his birth certificate to travel being below 16 years. .. In this case he also must have a notarized letter of consent signed by both of his parents. ..

How will a United States economic collapse affect Asia?
Q. Apparently, from what I've heard the United States is headed for an economic collapse. What I want to know is how will an Economic Collapse affect Asia? According to Peter Schiff, Asian currency will rise as the US dollar falls. China is looking to be a world economic leader and would lead Asia. Also billionaire Jim Rogers has moved to Singapore and said that China is going to grow. Do any of you feel that any of this is true? A. First of all, the US economy is not going to collapse. It's not even clear we're in a recession. The great depression was exacerbated by a fledgling fed that did exactly the opposite of what they should have done. That is, they took liquidity out of the system rather than adding it. Regarding your question, a collapse of the largest economy in the world (we are four, some think five times larger than China in GDP) would send the entire world into a depression. Since we would presumably default on our treasury bonds, of which China and Japan hold the most in the world, countries who hold our bonds as foreign reserves would experience a crisis of liquidity. Also, their export markets would dry up overnight and there would be a run on their… [cont.]

A. We do not have the political will to do much of anything else, whether it works or not. The politicians and the military strategerists are afraid of a repeat of Somalia, otherwise we would probably have US troops there already. I would personally like to see NATO get involved in a peace keeping mission there. The risk would be exposing them to terrorist attacks. Remember, it was the Sudanese who were harboring Osama Bin Laden before he went to Afghanistan.

How does the United States and or its people practice ethnocentrism?
Q. I need 3 examples of how the united states and or americans practice ethnocentrism...I am having a tough time figuring out what to write about... For anyone who doesn't know..Ethnocentrism is the assumption that one's own culture and way of life is superior to others...like americas ways of doing things is the best way.
Asked by Ell1989 - Thu Sep 10 21:44:41 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Ethnocentrism doesn't just mean that you feel that your identity is superior, but you use your view to view other cultures. Example: In South East Asian, most countries eat dogs. To them this is normal and because South East Asia is extremely poor they are accustomed to this. For Americans, we don't need to eat dogs because we have cattle, etc so we view dog eating as culturally unacceptable. We're using our biases to view South East Asia. Other examples could include how we go to war, democracy being better than socialism or communism, gun rights (many Asian countries don't have gun rights), stricter drug laws, and other foods.
